Highlights

  • 1947: District Band Contest at Crawfordsville, IN

  • 1947: Host District Band Clinic in DCHS gym

Dale Jackson

Years at DCHS: 1956-1964
 

Highlights

  • 1959: Performed and marched at various parades at Indiana University, the Power and Light Company, and French Lick, Indiana, where they took fourth place

  • 1960: Initiated the creation of the first Decatur cadet band composed of junior high school students under the direction of Mr. Jerry Holeman

  • 1961: Purchased new uniforms through various student fundraisers including car washes and candy sells

  • 1961: Traveled to several different colleges to participate in High School Band Day

  • 1967: DCHS Band represented school at IU's Band Day

  • 1979: Won 1st place rating and two inspection trophies at Lebanon & Marshall band contest

Ken Strieby

Highlights

  • 1984: Won 1st Division rating, rifle and flag caption awards at Bush Stadium 

  • 1985: First year band was divided into Wind Ensemble and Concert Band

  • 1985: First time DCHS Band made it to regionals where they won a 1st division rating, rifle and flag caption

  • 1986: Placed 34th at Indiana State Fair Band Day

  • 1986: Division 1 rating at Indiana State Music Association contest

  • 1987: 2nd Division rating at Bush Stadium and ISSMA State Tournament.

  • 1990: Doubled the size of enrollment from in 3 years from 40 to 80 members

  • 1991: Marched in 500 Festival Parade

  • 1993: Grew band enrollment to 105 students

  • 1993: Pep Band divided into Blue and Gold groups

  • 1996: Division 1 Superior Rating Regionals

  • 1996: Winter Guard awarded champions at Lawrence Central's "Music In Motion" contest

  • 2004: Marched in Fiesta Bowl Parade

  • 2005: Winter Percussion Ensemble First Ever State Champions (Open A Movement)

  • 2006: 2nd place ISSMA State Finals (Class B)

  • 2008: 1st Place Allstate Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, LA (Class AA)

  • 2008: State Champions Winter Percussion Ensemble (Open Class Movement)

  • 2009: Mid-State Band Association Championships Finalist, Mason, OH (Class AAAA)

  • 2013: State Champions Winter Percussion Ensemble (Open Class Marching)

  • 2014: Marched in Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade (Philadelphia, PA)

  • 2016: First Ever BOA Finals Appearance Dayton, OH

  • 2016: 10th place ISSMA State Finals (Class B)

  • 2017: Indoor Winds Inaugural Season 

  • 2018: DCHS Percussion Ensemble perform for  Indiana Music Educators Conference (Ft. Wayne, IN)

  • 2018: DCHS Teacher of the Year 2017-2018

  • 2020: Support Music Merit Award

  • 2021: 2nd Place Evening Finals BOA Orbitz, OH

  • 2022: Marched in Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade (Philadelphia, PA)
